怪奇映画が大好きなビリー少年。ある日、父親に大切なホラーコミックを捨てられてしまう。だがそのコミック雑誌のページがめくれ始め、コミックに描かれた怪奇物語が幕を開ける･･･。
1950年代に隆盛を誇ったアメリカン･コミック（ホラーや犯罪物語を題材）の再現をテーマに、キングがオリジナル脚本を書きおろし、『ナイト･オブ･ザ･リビングデッド』『ゾンビ』のジョージ･A･ロメロが監督。構成は『プロローグ』『エピローグ』の他、第一話『父の日』第二話『草まみれの男』第三話『引き潮』第四話『開封厳禁』第五話『クリープショー』。
撮影は『ゾンビ』『死霊のえじき』のマイケル･ゴーニック。音楽は『デューン 砂の惑星（TV）』『スティーブ･ジョブズ』の監督でも知られるジョン･ハリソン。サウンドデザイン／音響監修は『バットマン フォーエヴァー』『アビエーター』でオスカー候補となったピーター･ヒダル。
