『サスペリア』『インフェルノ』に続く監督作であり、アルジェントがジャッロ映画（aka.ジャーロ）に原点回帰した作品。新作のプロモーションのために、ローマにやってきたアメリカの推理小説家。ほどなく彼の周囲では、新作『シャドー』を模倣した殺人事件が頻発する。出演はアンソニー･フランシオサ、ダリア･ニコロディ、ジョン･サクソン、そしてジュリアーノ･ジェンマ。
撮影は『さすらいの二人』『サスペリア』『運命の逆転』のルチアーノ･トヴォリ。音楽はゴブリンのクラウディオ･シモネッティ、ファビオ･ピナテッリ、マッシモ･モランテの3人。音響エンジニアは『ベルトルッチの分身』『殺しが静かにやって来る』のローマン･パンパローニ。
